Crowns are placed to increase the strength and structural integrity of your teeth. They are recommended when a traditional filling will not suffice as an appropriate and long term solution. Over time it is often the case that our teeth weaken and become more susceptible to common dental problems. Incidences of decay, fracuture lines, root canal therapy, or broken teeth could all be possible reasons that a crown is needed. During your routine dental exams our doctor will monitor and watch the health and condition of your teeth for any changes and possible need for treatment.
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials. Depending on the location of the crown and proper durability needed, you and Dr. Koheil will determine what matierial is best for your personal dental condition.
The process of installing a crown takes 2-3 visits to our office. On the first visit the tooth will be reshaped and prepped by filing down the enamel so that the crown can be placed over it. Once the tooth has been reshaped, an impression will be taken and a temporary crown placed to cover and protect the newly prepped tooth. The impression will be sent to our lab so that your new crown can be fabricated and perfected. During your final appointment the newly customized crown will be permanently placed and adjusted to fit comfortably.
